ICC Revenue Share: Amid the impasse over Asia Cup 2023 and World Cup 2023, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is hitting back at BCCI. PCB has termed BCCI’s revenue share “nonsensical” and will raise the matter with ICC chief Greg Barclay who is visiting Pakistan for the first time. As per the proposed revenue share model, BCCI will pocket the lion’s share at 38.5%, followed by England (6.89%), Australia (6.25%) and Pakistan (5.75%).
However, Pakistan is not happy. The PCB expects greater share and has lashed out at the ICC for prioritising BCCI. PCB believes as Pakistan is ranked 2nd in ODI and many of its cricketers are in Top 10 of ICC Rankings in white-ball formats, it deserves more than what’s on offer.
“Our cricketers are leading the ranking in white-ball format. Pakistan is the No 2 team in ODI and No 3 in T20. How come we receive less amount. What the PCB wants to know is which criteria have been followed for such a proposed model,” GeoTV quoted a PCB official.

Why does BCCI get most of ICC Revenue Share?
- BCCI has always maintained that it contributes the most in ICC’s economy.
- In fact, Australia, England and South Africa all look at India series to drive revenues.
- For smaller nations, India series is their chief driving factor in terms of revenue.
- Furthermore, the lion share of ICC’s Media Rights deal comes from Indian subcontinent.
- Disney-Star spent around $3 billion to get ICC Media Rights. In other markets combined, it is not more than a $1.5 billion.
- Hence, BCCI pockets most of the revenue from ICC.
World Cup 2023 impasse to be discussed:
However, the primary focus of Barclay’s visit to Pakistan is to solve the impasse between PCB and the BCCI. While BCCI has refused to send India Cricket Team to Pakistan due to poor diplomatic relations between the two countries, Pakistan has fired back, refusing to send its team.
BCCI has been adamant about moving Asia Cup 2023 out of Pakistan entirely. But PCB has threatened that if the tournament is moved out of the nation, they will not only boycott Asia Cup but will also refuse to send their team to India which will be hosting World Cup 2023 in October.
Furthermore, Pakistan also hosts ICC Champions Trophy in 2025 which can create further issues. Hence, the ICC wants to resolve the issue once and for all.
