WTC Final 2023: Injuries & Fitness continue to be concerns
As India have reached London earlier, it will give the team a chance to address the injury and fitness concerns. Shardul Thakur is coming off an injury while Umesh Yadav is yet to be 100% fit. Jaydev Uandkat is also recovering from a shoulder injury.
The only good news for Team India is that Virat Kohli will be fully rested after Royal Challengers Bangalore failed to qualify for the playoffs. Cheteshwar Pujara who is playing County Championship will join after a short break.
The entire team will assemble on May 30 after the IPL 2023 gets over. Rohit Sharma, however, is expected to reach as soon as his commitments with Mumbai Indians are over. MI will face Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2023 Eliminator on Friday.
No Warm-up matches for Team India:
However, what comes as a big jolt for India is the absence of warm-up games. Even though all Indian players in WTC squad are coming of competitive cricket, practice games in England would have helped them acclimatise to the conditions better.
But with Vitality Blast T20 underway, BCCI has not been able to manage a practice game with any County side or a select County XI. Instead, Rohit Sharma & Co will have an intra-squad practice match ahead of the big final.
India’s squad for WTC final: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, KS Bharat (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat, Ishan Kishan (wk).
