Espanyol fans barge pitch against FC Barcelona
After winning what was a demolition derby on Sunday night, Xavi’s team locked arms and bounced around the center circle. However, enraged Espanyol fans immediately broke through a fake security barrier and headed toward the champions, who made their way hastily into the dressing room.
Security attempted to stop the fans at first, but there were too many of them, and they began to go near the players, some brandishing weapons as they were offended by their opponents’ celebrations on their field. With the team on the edge of relegation, some ultras forced their way down the tunnel and were accosted by Barca players like Sergio Busquets and Marcos Alonso, while others turned their attention to the board.

With the team on the edge of relegation, some ultras forced their way down the tunnel and were accosted by Barca players like Sergio Busquets and Marcos Alonso, while others turned their attention to the board. Although it is unlikely that any players were hurt, the club’s celebrations for winning La Liga were dampened by the hurried evacuation from the field.
After his side were crowned champions, Xavi said, ‘It’s a great feeling. It’s a job well done. This started in July and after months of work and sacrifice we have achieved our aim. The fans and the club deserve it, it gives us stability and security that things are being done well. We have sealed La Liga with a fantastic performance. We were brilliant tonight. The team relaxed at the end and Espanyol showed pride.’
