Lionel Messi: PEP GUARDIOLA hopes that Leo Messi returns to FC BARCELONA, Check OUT

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola said Lionel Messi will return to his former club Barcelona for the ‘send-off he deserves’. Pep said, ‘I’m a Barcelona fan, I’ve got my tickets [at Camp Nou], and I just hope that one day we can say goodbye to him as he deserves. He’s the greatest player of all time.’

He continued, ‘In the last 12 years or so, Barcelona had a “boom” and that wouldn’t have been possible without him. And I’m not talking about numbers, but rather his involvement in the play, his beauty, his efficiency, everything.’

Messi, who joined Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in 2021, is reportedly expected to receive honors from his previous team. Barcelona is reportedly putting up a tribute game with a 2024 date in mind, an event that was postponed following the Argentine’s contentious exit in June 2021 when he was freed and joined the PSG.

The team will return to Camp Nou in 2024–25 with the renovations already finished, marking the club’s 125th anniversary and allowing the Catalans to pay respect to Messi.

The Man City boss also added, ‘I hope the day comes when I’m in my seat [at Camp Nou] and I can stand up and applaud, and say goodbye to Leo as he deserves. And I know that Joan [Laporta] is going to try, and Leo too, and he and his family will receive all the love that Barcelona fans have for him, with all the gratitude and respect for what he did for the club.’

Following the club’s decision to reduce his suspension, Messi joined his Paris Saint-Germain colleagues in the gym on Monday. The French team announced Messi’s return on its website, posting a picture of the former Barcelona player running with a ball at the club’s training ground.

Return to FC Barcelona?

A return to FC Barcelona cannot be ruled out for Leo Messi now. The Argentine spent his whole life at the club, before having to make the move to PSG in 2021. Barcelona’s vice-president Rafael Yuste has said Barca has been in contact with Lionel Messi and his agent and has confirmed Barca’s interest in bringing back Leo.

Yuste said, ‘Leo and his family know the affection I have for them. I participated in the negotiations which unfortunately did not lead to a certain result. I’ve always had and I have this thorn in my side that Leo couldn’t continue at our club. Messi knows how much we appreciate him. I would love for him to come back. We’re in contact, of course, with them.’

Additionally, manager Xavi stated that the club is in “permanent contact” with his former teammate, suggesting a comeback may be forthcoming. Xavi said, ‘Messi knows that Barcelona is his home and the doors are open, I said this many times. He’s my friend — we are in permanent contact, a potential return will only depend on him. Leo is the best player in history, he’d always fit in.’
