Gujarat Titans, led by Hardik Pandya bagged their eighth win of the IPL 2023 against Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday. Batting first, GT posted a mammoth total of 227. Opening batter Shubman Gill emerged as his side’s highest scorer in the encounter with a fine knock of unbeaten 94. Lucknow, in response, could only manage to reach 171.
Currently the defending champions are comfortably seated at the first place in the IPL 2023 Points Table, leading Chennai Super Kings by one point. With 8 victories in 11 games, the Titans are almost certain to make the playoffs. The fact that GT has a mathematical chance of making the playoffs is perhaps not an understatement.
GT have a net run rate of 0.951 and 16 points in 11 games. They play the Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Mumbai Indians in their next fixtures. If GT loses their final three games, they will still only have 16 points, and if they lose by a significant margin, their NRR will significantly decline. However, a victory guarantees them a spot in the playoffs.
