MI vs RCB: ‘It’s mental not technical’ Virender Sehwag on Rohit Sharma’s struggle in IPL 2023 ahead of mega MI vs RCB clash

MI vs RCB: Rohit Sharma – Virender Sehwag feels Rohit Sharma’s struggle in IPL 2023 season is a mental thing and not a technical one. The Mumbai Indians skipper’s lean patch has seen him score just 184 runs at a dismal-looking average of 18.39 in 10 games. Rohit also demoted himself to number three in MI’s last encounter against CSK, prompting experts to question whether he is in the right state of mind. Sehwag states there is no wrong whatsoever with Rohit’s technique, and it is just a mental block. Follow Indian Premier League 2023 LIVE Updates on Insidesport.IN

“Rohit Sharma  is not battling with the bowlers but with himself,” Sehwag told Star Sports.

MI vs RCB: Sehwag confident Rohit will overcome the lean patch and will make up for all previous matches

For the uninitiated, Rohit has scored only fifty in IPL 2023 so far. More than the lack of runs, it is the soft dismissal that he has got out that is making fans experts angry. While Ravi Shastri feels the pressure of captaincy is taking a toll on Rohit Sharma, Sehwag is confident that the MI skipper will work on this lean patch and come back a lot stronger.

“There is a mental block. There’s no problem with his batting technique.

“Some confusion is going on in his mind. But the day he gets going, we will make up for all the previous matches.”

MI vs RCB: Ravi Shastri feels captaincy a major cause of Rohit’s downfall

Shastri opines it is related to captaincy pressure that Rohit has failed to get going in the current IPL season. MI had a terrific season before the mega auction in 2022. MI won five trophies, with the likes of Hardik Pandya, Krunal, Jasprit Bumrah, Lasith Malinga, and Quinton de Kock. While the Pandya brothers and de Kock are playing for other franchises, Malinga has retired, and Bunrah is ruled out due to injury. Shastri states the task of captain becomes tougher to get the team to perform as a unit.

“The resources that you had two or three years ago aren’t quite the same. The challenges as a captain might have doubled for him. The work as a captain would have doubled as opposed to two years ago when everything was nice, set – go out there and do the job,” Shastri told ESPNcricinfo.

“And then comes the challenge of how do you get them [the team] going, how do you motivate that bunch, how do you create a combination, how do you see who is the best in that lot to fit in and deliver at a certain stage of the game.”

Meanwhile, Gavaskar has suggested Rohit take a break from the game to back amongst runs. The former India opener cited Kohli’s example and suggested Rohit to take a backseat for a few games in IPL 2023 season.

“If you are in form, I still understand the scoop shot, but it’s a huge shot when you have got two ducks in the previous game. So, you want to play and get yourself off the mark, get some circulation in the legs, running quick ones and twos, and then go for the big ones. Maybe, he is preoccupied, and maybe a little break would do him good. But it’s for him and the MI team management to take a call,” Gavaskar said.
