“Kolkata Knight Riders captain Nitish Rana has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Punjab Kings at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Rana was fined Rs. 12 lakh,” the official IPL statement read.
Coming to the match, the KKR skipper was essential in the challenging 180-run chase. He set the tone for the chase while batting at number three with a stunning 38-ball 51 that included a six and six boundaries. Before Andre Russell and Rinku Singh put an end to the matter, he also stitched an important fifty-plus stand with Venkatesh Iyer (11).
The pressure on Andre Russell and Rinku Singh to lead KKR across the finish line with required 51 off 24. The 17th over began with Russell hitting a four, and Rinku then blasted it over the square leg fence for a six, shaving off 15 runs off the over.

The 19th over included two consecutive sixes from Russell. He attempted another six after a dot ball and completed the over with a single, leaving six runs needed for the final over. As the all-rounder tried to take a bye, Jitesh Sharma was astute enough to lob the ball over the stumps to Arshdeep, who took the bails off, forcing the batter to return to the dugout. In the end, Rinku once more completed the task at hand by hitting a four off the very last ball to propel KKR across the finish line.
