The bout between Daniel Santos and Johnny Munoz at bantamweight has been dropped from the UFC 288 fight card, the organisation confirmed today.

The Brazilian “Willycat” was forced to leave this Saturday night’s (May 6, 2023) large event at Prudential Centre in Newark, New Jersey, due to an unidentified injury.
Early in 2017, Santos (11-2) competed for the first time inside the Octagon but lost to Julio Arce as part of the UFC 273 pay-per-view (PPV) in Jacksonville. Just a few months later, at UFC Vegas 61, he beat John Castaneda with ease. Munoz (12-2) moved from King of the Cage (KOTC) in the summer of 2020 and is currently 2-2. He wants to build on his unanimous decision victory over Liudvik Sholinian at UFC Vegas 64.

For Munoz Jr., the last-minute cancellation is devastating. The 30-year-old gained momentum by defeating Liudvik Sholinian in a majority decision during his most recent fight in November 2022. However, he will have to wait before possibly securing another victory. “Kid Kvenbo” appeared to be finally finding his footing in the UFC.
There is no news yet on whether the UFC will move this bantamweight match to a later date or just part ways with both competitors.
