The police informed the Supreme Court on Friday that it would register the FIRs as demanded by the wrestlers. However, Tokyo Olympics medallist Bajrang Punia has warned that the protest will continue until police arrest Brijbhushan. On Friday, support poured in for wrestlers with Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra leading the support.

Furthermore, two FIRs have been registered against Brij Bhushan: under POCSO and the other on the complaint of the rest of the girls.

PT Usha attack Wrestlers

PT Usha took a harsh stance against the disgruntled wrestlers on Thursday, calling their protests in the streets an example of indiscipline and damaging the nation’s reputation. While accused of sexual harassment by India’s top wrestlers, under-fire national federation chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on Thursday indicated that he will fight with all his might to prove his innocence.

On Twitter, the Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra expressed his hurt at seeing athletes fighting for justice. “They have worked hard to represent our great nation and make us proud. As a nation, we are responsible for safeguarding the integrity and dignity of every individual, athlete or not,” the Tokyo 2020 gold medallist stated.

“The entire country worships cricket but not even a single cricketer has spoken up. We aren’t saying that you speak in our favour, but at least put up a neutral message and say there should be justice for whichever party. This is what pains me… Be it cricketers, badminton players, athletics, boxing…” Vinesh told Indian Express.

Earlier, in a video message, the BJP MP, without making a mention of the allegations against him, indicated that he would not accept defeat till he has strength for fight.

“Wrestlers staging protest on streets amounts to indiscipline. It is tarnishing the image of India,” PT Usha said to reporters post IOA’s Executive Committee meeting.

“Friends, the day I reflect on my life, what I gained or lost, the day I feel I don’t have the strength to fight, the day I feel helpless, I won’t like to live a life like that. Instead of living such a life, I would wish that death embraces me,” he said.

Star wrestlers, including World Championships medal winner Vinesh Phogat, Olympic medallists Bajrang Punia and Sakashi Malik, have made sexual harassment allegations against Brij Bhushan and have been sitting on an indefinite protest at Jantar Mantar here.

The elite athletes resumed their agitation against the Wrestling Federation of India chief on Sunday, three months after they ended their sit-in protest following the formation of an oversight committee by the government to probe into the serious allegations.

The Sports Ministry has not yet made public the findings of a six-member oversight panel that submitted its report on April 5.
