Sarfaraz has been a prolific run getter in the domestic format and him amassing runs in the Ranji Trophy saw him getting 3 centuries in the 2022-23 version of the Ranji Trophy. With Shreyas Iyer missing the tournament, a position opened in the middle order which could be filled.
Ajinkya Rahane found his form in IPL 2023 when he was picked by Chennai Super Kings. He bagged 209 runs in 5 innings with a healthy average of 52.25 and a strike rate of 199.
