IPL 2023 Injuries: Injuries are a part and parcel of the game but IPL 2023 has been far different from the previous editions of the Indian Premier League. The 16th edition of the tournament has witnessed the most injuries suffered by the players. Among the 10 teams, it is however MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings who have been the worst hit side with the plaguing injuries. Chennai Super Kings

CSK are one of the worst hit teams of IPL 2023. From Ben Stokes to Deepak Chahar, the MS Dhoni led team have struggled with injuries since the start of the season. The skipper Dhoni too has been ailing from a knee injury. While Kyle Jamieson and Mukesh Choudhary have been ruled out of the tournament, CSK were quick to get Sisanda Magala and Akash Singh as their replacements. The former duo suffered stress fracture and have been ruled out of the tournament.

Deepak Chahar missed a couple of games with his hamstring injury and has rejoined practice. He will take time to be back into the squad as will be Sisanda Magala. Star all rounder Ben Stokes too has been out with an injury and is keen on making his comeback as is Simranjeet Singh. MS Dhoni continues to play despite suffering from a knee injury.

Gujarat Titans

The defensing champions lost Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson on their opening game of the tournament against CSK. In an attempt to take a stunning catch at the boundary, Williamson went on to injury his knee and was immediately substituted from the game. Not only was he ruled out of the entire IPL 2023 tournament, the Kiwi captain is also set to miss the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023. Sri Lanka’s Dasun Shanaka was opted as the replacement.

Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings hoped for a good season which was cut short with a couple of major injuries. Youngster Raj Angad Bawa has been ruled out of the tournament with a left shoulder injury. Gurnoor Singh Brar has replaced the youngster. However, the Major missing for PBKS has been the absence of Jonny Bairstow.

The destructive English batter suffered a freak leg accident while playing golf last september and has been missing action since then. The English cricketer is currently eyeing to get back to his form and play the Ashes. This has prompted him to focus on county cricket, thereby opting to ditch IPL 2023. Aussie cricketer, Michael Short was drafted in as Bairstow’s replacement.

The latest addition to the injury list for the Punjab Kings, is their skipper Shikhar Dhawan. The Southpaw got injured on his shoulder in Punjab’s encounter against Gujarat Titans. Following which the team has been without their talismanic opener. With Dhawan not fully recovered, the PBKS are likely to miss their captain for the upcoming games as Sam Curran leads the team in the former’s absence.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

The injury list of RCB is quite long. RCB lost English pacer Reece Topley in their very first game against Mumbai Indians. Topley landed awkwardly on his right shoulder which in turn got dislocated. Topley however had to miss the entire of the tournament and Proteas pacer Wayne Parnell was bought as his replacement.

A major missing for the Bangalore outfits has been Will Jacks. The English cricketer got injured in the tour of Bangladesh and is therefore ruled out of the entire tournament. Kiwi’s Michael Bracewell was drafted as his replacement. The other major missing was Rajat Patidar. He was undergoing his rehab at the NCA and then was adjudged to miss the entire of the tournament. On the other hand, Vyashak Vijay Kumar was selected as his replacement.

Josh Hazlewood too had an Achilles problem and has been missing action. He is however likely to feature in the upcoming games for RCB.

Kolkata Knight Riders

KKR are missing the services of their skipper Shreyas Iyer. The India batter underwent a surgery on his back and has been ruled out of the tournament. Initially, Iyer was reluctant to go under the knief. He bagan alternate and ayurvedic medicine to recover on his back injury. But, with time running out and not willing to add any more further risk, Iyer decided to pay heed to what NCA and BCCI said. He underwent his surgery in London and Nitish Rana has stepped up in the former’s absence to lead the team.

Delhi Capitals

Following his horrific accident last year, Rishabh Pant is currently on his road to recovery. The Delhi Capitals skipper underwent a couple of surgeries and has a long road for recovery laid ahead of him. Aussie opener, David Warner took the reins of the team to lead on Pant’s behalf. Young bengali keeper Abhishek Porel was bought in as Pant’s replacement.

Kamlesh Nagakoti has also been ruled out of the tournament with a back injury. With DC undergoing a poor form, the Capitals doesn’t have the luxury to lose another player.

Mumbai Indians

The five time champions have not been exempted from the injury curse. Prior to the start of the tournament, it was revealed that pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the tournament after having undergone a surgery on his back. Sandeep Warrier was selected as Bumrah’s replacement.

Jhye Richardson is another name missing for the Mumbai outfits. After going a shoulder surgery and a hamstring issue, he was ruled out of the tournament. Aussie pacer Riley Meredith was selected as his replacement. Jofra Archer too picked up an elbow injury after MI’s opening game against RCB. After missing quite a few games, he made his comeback against Punjab Kings.

Lucknow Super Giants

LSG are missing the services of Mohsin Khan. The player underwent a surgery to remove blood clots on his injured left shoulder. Battling on his way to find fitness, Khan is a part of the LSG training squad. He is yet to being his bowling practice and is unlikely to feature in a game in the upcoming games. However, the LSG team believes that Mohsin Khan can get fit and join the team in the second part of the tournament.

Rajasthan Royals

There aren’t many major missing for Rajasthan Royals after from only one player. After suffering a lumbar fracture last year, Prasidh Krishna is on a long way into his recovery. He has been ruled out of the tournament and as a result the last year’s runners up have opted to rope in Sandeep Sharma as his replacement.
