Rana’s Knight Riders started their season on a the front foot, winning two of their opening three matches. Their performance however hasn’t been up to the mark since then. Their middle order consisting three lefties: Venkatesh Iyer, captain Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh have been in fine form but it’s their opener’s that haven’t found there feet yet. Their spin trio of Narine, Varun and Suyash have performed well. Their pacers haven’t been effective so far and given the nature of the pitch here, they might be out of the picture again.
MS Dhoni has been a happy man, his team has produced all round performances with every single player contributing in the six games they have played so far. Conway and Gaikwad along with Rahane have given them great starts in power-play’s. There finger spinners in Ali, Jadeja, Theekshana and even Santner have had a great run. Tushar Despande and Sri Lankan new comer Matheesha Pathirana have picked wickets consistently. Lefty big hitter Shivam Dube is in his best IPL form and MS Dhoni has played some great cameos as well.
Eden Gardens Pitch Report
The pitch at the Eden Gardens stadium is well known for helping batters. It has been a high-scoring venue in the shorter format of the game due to the ground’s small dimensions. Defending a total below 180 can prove to be extremely difficult on this batting surface.
The stats clearly show the thinking about choosing to bat second here. From the 80 IPL matches played here at Eden Gardens Stadium, the chasing team has won 47 times, while the team batting first won 33 times.
The weather in Kolkata is expected to be windy and cloudy, with temperatures ranging between 25°- 33° Celsius during the night. There is a 20% chance of precipitation and with the windy and cloudy conditions one can expect a slight delay before or during the match. The conditions would also bring pacer’s more into the equation.
The average 1st inning score at this venue is 160 runs. The highest total ever recorded here is 232 runs which was achieved by home town heroes KKR against MI back in 2019. The lowest total ever recorded here is 49 runs, which was scored by RCB back in 2017.
Considering the pitch, weather and past records it is expected that the team that wins the toss at Eden Gardens, they will opt to bowl first. KKR at their home against CSK coming here in form, fans can expect a cracking match.
