Cricket in Olympics: Mumbai is all set to host the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session in the month of October. The 140th session of the IOC is scheduled from 15th to 17th October 2023. The session holds important significance as it would decide the fate of Cricket’s inclusion in the 2032 Brisbane Olympics. The ICC and the Cricket Australia has been targetting the inclusion of the sport at the Olympics ever since Brisbane won the rights to host the quadrennial event. The International Cricket Committee (ICC) had earlier pushed for the sport to be included in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. However the claim was rejected by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). With the next Olympics all set to be held in Australia where there is enough infrastucture in place for Cricket to be played, the ICC is now pushing for the sport to be included in the biggest sporting event.
According to a report, a new Olympics committee has been set up by the ICC to make a fresh pitch for the 2023 Brisbane Olympics. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah will head the team. The commitee headed by Shah will have a big task at hand during the October session of the IOC in Mumbai.

Cricket has never been part of any Olympics. However Women’s T20 Cricket made its debut at the Commonwealth Games 2022 at Birmingham. Asian Games are also set to make a return to the upcoming Asian Games that is scheduled to be held between September and October 2023.
The BCCI has however much recently announced that both the Men and Women’s cricket teams will not feature in the Asian Games 2023. It remains to be seen whether this decision by the biggest cricket board in the world, will have any impact during the IOA session later this year.
The IOC Session will be held at least once a year with a general meeting of the members. Important discussions regarding host cities, inclusion and exclusion of sports are set to be held at the session. The last IOA session in India was held 40 years ago in 1983 with New Delhi receiving the delegates.
