Brighton started strongly, with Alexis Mac Allister almost scoring from a free-kick, but Manchester United gradually improved as the first half progressed. Despite missing chances, United remained level at half-time.

Brighton came close to scoring in the second half, but were denied by De Gea and Welbeck’s missed header. Substitute Jadon Sancho had a late chance but missed. In extra-time, Rashford and Mitoma both missed chances to score. The match went to penalties, with each team scoring their first 12 kicks.
March missed his penalty for Brighton, allowing Lindelof to score the winning penalty and send United to their second final of the season.
