Archer played MI’s opening match against RCB and has since been on the bench due to soreness in his right elbow. Now ahead of the MI vs PBKS game, Archer is hopeful of making a return having put himself in the best possible position.
“Obviously the last two weeks aren’t exactly what you would hope for after being so fully active. I don’t know which game will be the next game, but I’m just trying to put myself in the best position possible (to play),” Archer was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
Despite the absence, Archer is expected to return over the course of next week. He could very well make his home debut at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday against Punjab Kings. The English speedster has resumed bowling in the nets and is in regular contact with the ECB as well.
Archer is keen to return as soon as possible and play in front of the home crowd.
“I probably didn’t have the debut that I wanted. but I do have the opportunity to debut at home. Hopefully, I can make it a proper one this time. When we played Chennai at home, I couldn’t believe the atmosphere – both teams have an unbelievable following. It is always great seeing the sea of blue (in the stands),” Archer told ESPNCricinfo.
Archer’s career has been plagued by injuries but he still hopes to keep bowling as fast as he can. He admits that his long layoff will have an effect on his body and is just keen to be at 100 per cent soon.
“To be honest, I still want to bowl fast and stuff – but when you feel good, you bowl good. I just want to focus on feeling good at the minute. But it’s what you expect when you’ve been off for a long time: the body’s not going to be 100 percent straight away. There are going to be moments where it feels a lot more serious than it actually is, ” he added.
Mumbai Indians have already been hit by injuries with Jasprit Bumrah ruled out for the season. Archer’s injury further weakened the side but Rohit Sharma and Co have managed to pick up three wins in five games so far. Having missed the playoffs for two straight seasons, the five-time champions will be keen to finish in the top 4.
