Conor McGregor Loses Outside UFC

According to records, McGregor lost two fights outside the UFC. The first loss came in 2008 against Artemji Sitenkov at COT 3: Cage of Truth in Dublin, Ireland. McGregor was defeated by kneebar submission in the first round, marking the first loss of his professional MMA career.

The second loss outside the UFC came in 2010 against Joe Duffy at CWFC 39: The Uprising in Cork, Ireland. Duffy defeated McGregor by submission via arm-triangle choke in just 38 seconds. At the time, McGregor’s record fell to 6-2 before he embarked on his winning streak in Cage Warriors and eventual move to the UFC.

While McGregor’s early losses outside the UFC may be a distant memory, they show the maturation of a fighter who has since reached the pinnacle of MMA success. All fighters experience losses and adversity on their path to greatness, and for McGregor those losses built perseverance. From 2008 to 2022, McGregor transformed from a fighter suffering quick submission losses to a legend of the UFC known for his dangerous left hand and transcendent popularity.

McGregor’s losses early in his career, though coming outside the UFC spotlight, contributed to his vast experience and evolving skills. They represent an ultimate underdog story of a fighter who overcame humble beginnings to break through to global stardom. Though the Notorious one is known for his brash confidence today, his early struggles show the determination required to reach the top of any sport. McGregor’s losses built the foundation for his championship success in the UFC and his status as the biggest star MMA has ever seen.
