In a statement by the IPL, Virat Kohli accepted the fine for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct.
“Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter Virat Kohli has been fined 10 per cent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru,” the statement read.
It is believed Kohli was sanctioned for his aggressive send-off to Shivam Dube during the match. Dube scored a game-turning 52 off just 27 balls, including five towering sixes. The CSK all-rounder had previously featured for RCB and Kohli was relieved to see the back of the hard-hitting left-hander.
Virat Kohli managed only 6 runs against CSK, with Akash Singh getting the prized scalp in the very first over. The RCB star inside-edged a delivery onto his pads which rolled back onto the stumps. He was visibly distraught at the dismissal with his side falling behind in the chase.
However, quick-fire fifties from Glenn Maxwell and Faf du Plessis kept RCB in the hunt. However, some fine bowling from CSK at the death ensured that the visitors take home an 8-run win. RCB are now 7th in the IPL standings with 2 wins in 5 games.
