There were not enough seats available for Monday’s IPL game between the Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Chinnaswamy stadium. Fans had to queue outside the stadium for hours to get tickets when they were suddenly sold out. Many spectators who waited outside the stadium gates voiced their displeasure at what they perceived as poor handling by the teams and venue officials.
The scenario sparked contentious debates on social media, with many supporters accusing CSK of favouring corporate sponsors by holding the majority of tickets. In addition to the few counter sales, just four stands have seats available for online reservations. Rest are provided for business executives, celebrities, government leaders, and event organisers.
The BCCI and the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) would receive 20% of all tickets, according to CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan. In addition, TNCA (division) clubs receive 13,000 tickets. Due to the lack of tickets and the dissatisfaction of the fans, TNCA has decided to increase the number of tickets available for purchase this time.
