Formula 1: Mick Schumacher, the reserve driver for Mercedes, has shared his experiences of working with the team in a new diary post on their website. Having lost his Haas race seat to Nico Hulkenberg for the 2023 season, Schumacher moved over to Mercedes to take on a back-up role behind full-time drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell. He spoke about his first few months at the factory and trackside, his duties in the simulator, and how he is trying to be a helpful addition to the workforce wherever he can. Schumacher also highlighted what he has learned from Hamilton and Russell so far, and how he has been taken aback by the number of radio conversations across the team during on-track sessions.

Schumacher stated that he has settled in well with Mercedes, with everyone being open-minded and welcoming towards him from the first moment he stepped into the factory in Brackley.

He has spent a lot of time there in the first few months and has been getting used to the high level of preparation that he sees at Mercedes. His main focus has been working in the simulator, where he has been able to apply his knowledge of the new set of regulations to be an extra pair of eyes and a resource to help with the development programme throughout the year.

Schumacher has learned a lot from Hamilton and Russell so far, and it has been fascinating to work with them.

Schumacher has been impressed by the sheer amount of exchange that happens during on-track sessions and how engineers genuinely listen to his opinion, which matters. He has been enjoying his role at Mercedes and is looking forward to being an even more helpful addition to the workforce in the future.
