As the Premier League struggle continues to find a successor for Richard Scudamore for more than two years, several clubs are backing interim Chief Executive Richard Masters for the permanent job.

The concern to have a permanent CEO has been growing as the CEO-elect David Pemsel had tendered his resignation last week even before joining the office. Pemsel was supposed to take charge as the Premier League CEO in January next year.

Pemsel was compelled to quit after clubs were anguished over the disclosure of his inappropriate text messages sent to a former female colleague. He became the third shortlisted candidate to turn down the offer for the Premier League CEO’s post.

Theleague has reportedly sought the opinion of the clubs and a majority has reportedly backed Masters for the job. A former EFL and ECB executive, Masters has been with the Premier League for over 13 years, the Daily Mail has reported.

The 51-year-old Masters has taken Premier League CEO’s charge as an interim arrangement after Scudamore had resigned in November 2018.
