The sacking of Tuchel, the hiring of Potter, signing the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Joao Felix (albeit on a loan), Mykhailo Mudryk, etc. have seen them spent a whole lot of money. Now, it seems as though Todd Boehly is still not done with new signings. Rumors suggest that the Chelsea owner is looking to rope in Barcelona’s young midfielder, Gavi. Chelsea Transfers: GAVI to STAMFORD BRIDGE? Todd Boehly reportedly to meet with Gavi parents as Blues look to rope down Barca young midfielder, Check OUT

According to rumors, Chelsea has intensified their pursuit of Gavi as Todd Boehly is scheduled to meet with his parents. Since becoming the first squad at Barcelona, the wonder kid has made an impression and has played a key role for Spain at the World Cup. Despite signing a contract that lasts through 2026 in September, he might be made available for a free transfer in the summer.

Gavi’s contract and squad number have been removed due to Barcelona’s financial troubles, and he has been re-registered as an academy player under his former contract. And it looks like Boehly is wooing the midfielder to Stamford Bridge in an effort to take advantage of his contractual circumstances. Chelsea allegedly spoke with Ivan de la Pena, Gavi’s agent.

Boehly will now discuss Chelsea’s ambitions for the 18-year-old and their aim to make him a crucial member of the club with his parents during a meeting, according to AS. The Blues want to steal Gavi off the Spotify Camp Nou for free, but it is said the kid would like to remain at Barca.

However, if the Blaugrana are unable to significantly reduce their wage bill, that may prove to be impossible. Chelsea could give Gavi a much better deal than Barca and pay a significant signing-on fee. The West Londoners’ hiring of former Spain manager Luis Enrique as their manager for the upcoming campaign could further sweeten the pot.

Barcelona has been effectively placed under a transfer ban by La Liga until they sort their finances out. Ten players could reportedly leave the league leaders as they need to raise £178 million.

Barcelona’s Gavi conundrum

Gavi’s contract and squad number at Barcelona has been terminated because the team is unable to list him as a first-team player with La Liga. After two appeals were denied, the midfielder will be able to play for Barca again this year, but he will need to be listed as an academy player under his prior contract.

The highly regarded 18-year-old will also have to don the No. 30 jersey rather than the No. 6 one that was assigned to him when he was added to the first-team roster. La Liga rejected Gavi’s extension since Barca has a negative net worth, partly as a result of their Champions League group-stage elimination.

The Spanish international’s contract expires at the end of the season and therefore would allow him to walk away from the club for free. There has already been interest shown by Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Liverpool. Barcelona will be hoping to find room financially so that they don’t lose out on their young gem.
