Apart from their first match, the Kolkata Knight Riders are performing very well in season 16 of the IPL. They recently achieved a victory over the defending champions, the Gujarat Titans, on their home ground. During that match, KKR’s Rinku Singh hit five consecutive sixes off GT’s Yash Dayal in the final over to secure the win. Additionally, Shardul Thakur played a heroic inning in KKR’s match against RCB, which helped them secure 81-run victory.

On the other hand, the Sunrisers Hyderabad had a poor start to the IPL season 16, losing their first two matches. However, they managed to make a comeback in their match against the Punjab Kings, securing an 8-wicket victory. Mayank Markande was the standout performer during the match, taking 4 wickets in just 4 overs while conceding only 15 runs. Meanwhile, Rahul Tripathi’s unbeaten 74 off 48 balls was a key factor in securing the win for the Sunrisers.

Eden Gardens Pitch Report

Over the years, the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata has been the home ground for the Kolkata Knight Riders. It has hosted 79 Indian Premier League matches.

The pitch at the Eden Gardens stadium is renowned for its batting-friendly wickets. It is a high-scoring venue in T20 formats due to its relatively small size. During IPL 2023, defending a total below 180 can be difficult on this surface. Therefore, a team may prefer to bowl first at the Eden Gardens stadium. Additionally, it has been observed that the team who chooses to chase has a better chance of winning at this venue.

The weather in Kolkata is expected to be warm and humid, with temperatures ranging between 33°- 37° Celsius during the afternoon. However, the temperature will cool down as the sun sets. Additionally, expect breezy thunderstorms during the afternoon, as Norwesters are quite common in this region at this time of the year.

A total of 79 IPL matches have been played here at Eden Gardens Stadium. Out of which the chasing team won 47 times, while the team batting first won 32 times.

The average first-inning score at this venue is 160 runs. The highest total ever recorded here is 232 runs, which was smashed by home team KKR against MI in 2019. Conversely, the lowest total ever recorded here is 49 runs, which was scored by RCB in 2017.

Considering the pitch conditions and past records it is expected that if either team wins the toss at Eden Gardens, they will opt to bowl first. While looking at the strong bowling and batting line-ups of both teams, the stage is set for an exciting match.
