While Burns emerged victorious, the fight didn’t end without controversy. However, after the match, Burns realized that he may have spoken too soon and apologized for his post-fight comments. It just goes to show that in the world of UFC, sometimes things aren’t always what they seem, and even the most seasoned fighters can make mistake.

VIDEO: Gilbert Burns apologized to Jorge Masvidal for his post fight statement

In the world of UFC, things can get heated quickly, and the recent press conference at UFC 287 was no exception. During which Gilbert Burns accused Jorge Masvidal of using lotion to make himself slippery during their UFC fight, but ultimately emerged victorious. And now, Burns displayed sportsmanship and humility by issuing a sincere apology video. 

He stated, “I just would like to take the moment to apologize to Jorge Masvidal and his team, ATT. For the things that I said after the fight in the post-fight press conference for UFC 287. I said that he used lotion and this and that. I said it too much and I cannot prove that and I would like to send my apologies to Jorge and his team and take everything that I said. And I hope he accepts my apology and I think what I did was wrong. I have no proof that he did that and I want to take nothing away from him.

With humility and sportsmanship, Burns retracted his statements and asked for forgiveness from Masvidal and his team. He made it clear that he did not want to take anything away from Masvidal’s impressive performance. And wished him a happy retirement.
