The first match of the 16th edition of the IPL did not go as planned for the Chennai Super Kings. MS Dhoni and Co. suffered a defeat against the Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad. They then returned home for their second game and defeated KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants. For their third game, they traveled to the iconic Wankhede Stadium and beat five-time champion Mumbai Indians at their home-ground.

On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals won their first game against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad. RR then returned home for their second game. They played at their home-ground Baraspara Stadium in Guwahati against Punjab Kings but lost the game. In the third game, Rajasthan defeated Delhi Capitals at Baraspara Stadium.

Chidambaram Stadium Pitch Report

Over the years, the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai has served as the home ground for Chennai Super Kings. The Stadium has hosted 67 Indian Premier League matches so far.

The pitch at Chepauk has historically been a decent pitch for the batters. It has a hard and dry surface that tends to break down as the game progresses. The pitch offers considerable assistance to spinners, and with Chennai Super Kings’ strong spin attack, fans can expect a spin-dominated contest. Additionally, the pitch has almost no grass covering, further enhancing the spinners’ advantage.

The weather in Chennai during the IPL 2023 is expected to be hot and humid. Temperatures would be around 33°C during the afternoon and cool down as the evening approaches. The city’s proximity to the sea means that there will be sticky and humid conditions.

A total of 67 IPL matches have been played here at Chepauk Stadium. Out of which the chasing team won 26 times, while the batting first won 41 times.

The average first-inning score at this venue is 170 runs. The highest total ever recorded here is 246 runs, which was smashed by home team CSK against RR in 2010. Conversely, the lowest total ever recorded here is 70 runs, which was scored by RCB in 2019.

It is anticipated that if either team wins the toss at Chepauk, they will likely choose to bat first. Considering both teams’ strong bowling and batting line-ups, the match is expected to be exciting.
