IND vs AFG: BCCI continues to support Afghanistan cricket, despite the Taliban taking over in August 2021

For the unversed, India has always been supportive of Afghanistan despite the takeover of Taliban in August 2021. In the past, BCCI have also provided Afghans with its cricket venues in Greater Noida, Lucknow, and Dehradun. Australia canceled its series against Afghanistan in 2022 after Taliban banned the women’s cricket team in Afghanistan. Full membership of ICC requires a women’s team. Earlier In match 2023, Afghanistan’s’ full membership in ICC barely survived after ICC concluded that it is not ACB at fault, but its government.

Imran Khawaja ICCs’ deputy chairman and head of the working group had a meeting with ACB and Taliban in Doha twice in November. At that time, the working committee concluded that the matter of the Afghanistan women’s team is beyond the control of ACB. As of now, BCCI have not raised the issue regarding Taliban banning Afghanistan women’s team.
