IPL 2023 – CSK vs RR: With CSK vs RR Indian Premier League 2023 clash in sight, Chennai Super Kings star Ben Stokes has proposed a unique idea to penalise the batter who is trying to gain unfair advantage by leaving the crease early. The run-out at the non-striker end, popularly known as Mankad, continues to cause controversy within the cricket community. Stokes opined this solution after RCB vs LSG clash where Harshal Patel miserably failed to ‘mankad’ Ravi Bishnoi on the last ball of the match.
The last-ball drama on Monday night between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Super Giants has sparked the ‘mankad’ debate again.
LSG needed 5 runs to win in the final over, and they even lost two wickets to add to the remarkable run-chase. On last ball, visitors were 1 run away from win with 1 wicket in hand. Then the RCB bowler Harshal Patel had a fantastic opportunity to mankad Ravi Bishnoi, but the run-out arrived a little late after he had finished his follow-through motion.
Notably, after completing the follow-through, one is not permitted by cricketing laws to mankad a batter who is not the striker.
Harshal Patel had a chance to bowl out Ravi Bishnoi at the non-striker end but he failed to do so, forcing RCB to bowl the final ball once more.
“Umpires discretion.. 6 penalty runs if obviously trying to gain unfair advantage by leaving crease early? Would stop batters doing it without all the controversy,” Ben Stokes wrote on Twitter after the match while replying to Harsha Bhogle.
