El Clasico: There have been a thousand speculations on the future of Real Madrid boss, Carlo Ancelotti over the last few weeks. He is serving his second stint at the club now and if talks of an exit are brewing, it’s because of Real Madrid’s poor form in domestic competitions this season. Hence, it could prove to be extremely crucial for Ancelotti to win the Copa Del Rey semi-final 2nd leg on Wednesday or it could mean farewell to the Italian coach. Carlo Ancelotti has been linked with the head coach position vacant with the Brazil National team. Many Brazilians at Real Madrid and other clubs have spoken out about the matter and it seems that they would be delighted to have Ancelotti as their coach. Ancelotti himself has expressed that the prospect is ‘exciting’ for him which could indicate his wish to move.

However, whether he wants to move or not, he would definitely want to leave Real Madrid after having a good season. Judging by their season so far, they have been largely unsuccessful at home, in Spain. They have been second to Barcelona in every step. First, they lost to Barcelona 1-3 in the Spanish Super Cup final earlier in January.

Second, in La Liga, they lost to Barcelona very recently in the latest El Clasico and increased the point gap to 12 from the first-placed Barcelona. Even if Madrid were to win all of their next matches, they would still need Barcelona to lose points in at least 5 matches or more to win the league title. Then again, that seems impossible considering, Madrid have drawn 3 and lost 3 league matches since January.

There is some good news for Ancelotti as Real Madrid are still alive and going well in the Champions League. However, their fickle form worries everyone and doesn’t give off ‘surefire hope’ to fans. They next face Chelsea in the Champions League quarter-final. Even though Chelsea are going through a nightmare season of their own, they could still prove to be too much for Real Madrid if they don’t buck up.

That pretty much sums up their form in domestic competitions. Now, their only hope at home remains in the Copa Del Rey. There they are going to the opponent’s territory at Spotify Camp Nou to face Barcelona in the semi-final second leg with a 1-goal deficit. If they don’t overturn this and come out victorious at the end of the match, it could prove fatal for Ancelotti’s future at Real Madrid.

Even if they do go on to win the Champions League, rumours are, Real Madrid president, Florentino Pérez is not very happy with the Italian’s work this season. Ancelotti’s contract with Madrid expires at the end of this season. However, reports say that Perez could decide to let Ancelotti go before that. Even though that seems unlikely, it’s still pivotal for Ancelotti’s future at Real Madrid to win Wednesday’s El Clasico.
