WATCH: Israel Adesanya Explains His Knockout Loss to Alex Pereira Ahead of UFC 287
In a recent video for ESPN MMA, Adesanya joined Ryan Clark to discuss his upcoming match and shared valuable insights into his preparation. He expressed his confidence in overpowering his opponent, Poatan, in the match. During the conversation, Clark asked Adesanya about his thoughts on the big punch landed by Alex Pereira in Round 5 of their previous fight, which resulted in Adesanya’s eventual knockout loss.
He stated, “I knew I could win that fight. He had an onslaught he was throwing and I was taking care of myself getting hit with some shots when I stumbled. It was because of my leg which caused to be compromised early on in the fight. It wasn’t from being rocked or anything. So you can see like when the fight was stopped I was like ‘yo ref I’m still here.’ Same even for his teammate Glover against Jamal Hill.”
He added, “In that fight Glover almost got killed, the same referee, so I’m like why did you give him all that chance to try and fight? So you know ease in the moment things are happening it’s hard to kind of like get what’s happening. When you see a guy stumble from a leg trip. So in that moment I was just like okay keep moving don’t stay stagnant keep moving. And counter when you’re ready or when it’s time. But never got the opportunity.”
Indeed, Adesanya appears to be mentally strong and resilient, and despite his knockout loss to Pereira, he doesn’t seem to be affected by it. He seems confident in his abilities and is determined to overpower his upcoming opponent, Poatan, in their upcoming match. With his focused mindset and unwavering determination, Adesanya is sure to put up a strong fight and leave his mark in the octagon.
