Premier League: Liverpool’s tumultuous season continues on. You just never know what is happening and when. One day, you thrash the team in form, Manchester United by 7 goals to nil. The very next week, you lose to the team that is last in the PL table, Bournemouth. The Reds have lost their last three games and even managed to lose after going one goal up against Manchester City. It has been reported that the squad held crisis talks ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Stamford Bridge as they look to come out of this slump. Follow Liverpool Football Club LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN

Liverpool just doesn’t seem to get it right. When they do, it lasts for just a single game. The win against Manchester United would have lifted their spirits, but the next three games have deflated them yet again. Their latest game against Manchester City was yet another example of the volatility of their performances.

They had holes in midfield, their defenders suddenly forgot how to defend at all. Salah put them up 1-0 but they never looked like they would hang on as they let 4 goals be scored by the Cityzens. They took their fewest shots in a Premier League game since 2011. Klopp, who suggested that City had shown them some mercy, said there were no redeeming features.

With a journey to Chelsea on Tuesday night, the two struggling giants of the division must make a decision. On Sunday, Klopp’s team gathered to talk about issues in a setting where Virgil van Dijk anticipated harsh remarks to be made.

Van Dijk said, ‘It is a big day. If you’re losing the way we lost, then definitely there will be some hard talking. The turnaround is quite quick, with Chelsea on Tuesday. We’re trying, we’re trying. The first half was quite even against City.’

In the City game, before halftime, they were under pressure but had entered HT level, only to lose focus at kickoff and give up 53 seconds later. There was nowhere to hide after that. City played with them for a long time. Klopp too did not hold back his words after the game. He said, ‘We were lucky they were not in the greediest mood. Nothing good to say about this game.’

Liverpool just seemed to have no midfield. They kept getting overrun in the middle of the park, while Pep’s City was in a menacing mood. The Reds concede three big chances a game to clubs, which is more than any of the relegation-threatened clubs as well. This season has been Klopp’s biggest test at Anfield in his 8-year tenure. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool bounces back against Chelsea and also if they managed to finish in the European places.
