With Mohammed Siraj and Reece Topley bowling in tandem, RCB took early command with MI only posting 29/3 in powerplay. But as MI kept losing big wickets, Tilak held the innings together and blew RCB attack away. RCB were also dealt a big blow as Reece Topley has been ruled out of the game with a dislocated shoulder.
RCB Innings Highlights: Chasing 172, Kohli (82 not out) and Du Plessis (73) produced an exhibition of sublime stroke-making. The duo plundered 10 boundaries and as many maximums during their near flawless 89-ball 148-run stand.
Their assault at the packed Chinnaswamy Stadium was enough to secure victory. However, there was a sudden dip. After Arshad Khan broke the stand, removing Du Plessis in the 15th over, Dinesh Karthik was promoted to get the job done quickly to get an NRR boost. However, the finisher could not finish things off as Cameron Green removed him in the next over for a three-ball duck.
But Kohli in a sublime form completed the job. He hit a four and six off Arshad Khan to knock off the winning runs to hand MI their 11th consecutive defeat in their first match of the season.

MI brought in Jason Behrendorff in place of Suryakumar Yadav as their impact player. But it did not work. He and his new-ball partner Arshad were taken to the cleaners by Kohli and du Plessis. The duo racked up 30 in three overs.
If Behrendorff was smacked for successive sixes by du Plessis, Kohli blasted a four and six off Jofra Archer after being dropped by the bowler in the first ball. Archer had a pretty ordinary MI debut, going for 0/33 in his four.
Du Plessis took apart Cameron Green hitting two fours and a maximum. The skipper repeated the treatment to Hrithik Shokeen with two maximums to reach his fifty.
Kohli then whacked Chawla over long-on to bring up the team hundred before reaching his individual fifty in the 12th over.
Mumbai Indians Innings Highlights: Earlier, MI had a poor start. RCB bowlers had reduced MI to 20/3 in 5.2 overs. But it was Tilak Varma who added 50 and 48 with Nehal Wadhera (21) and Arshad Khan (15 not out) for the fifth and eighth wickets, respectively.
The 20-year-old decorated his knock with nine boundaries and four sixes to take MI to a respectable total.
MI suffered early trouble with Mohammed Siraj removing Ishan Kishan with an outswinger. Reece Topley dismissed Cameron Green before he dislocated his shoulder while trying to stop a run. He took no further part in the game.
Rohit got a life when Siraj and Dinesh Kartik collided while going for the catch in the fifth over. However, the India skipper couldn’t capitalise as Akash Deep induced an edge.
Suryakumar Yadav, who has been in poor form, too perished after a start, hitting straight to Shahbaz Ahmed. However, Varma continued to bat with confidence. But Tim David once again disappointed.
A 1⃣0⃣1⃣m maximum followed by a wicket!
