Aston Villa secured all three points in a frantic 2-0 Premier League mid-table win against Chelsea on Saturday, thanks to goals from prolific attacker Ollie Watkins and captain John McGinn. Watkins took advantage of a mistake by retreating defender Marc Cucurella, who headed a long ball into his path in the 18th minute, and neatly floated his shot over charging Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Chelsea, who had 69% possession and 26 shots but have been ineffective in front of goal this season, came out firing in the second half only to give a corner from a Villa break. In the 56th minute, McGinn received the ball and sent a blistering shot from 20 metres past the diving Kepa and into the bottom corner.
Villa, who have gained 29 points from 15 games since Unai Emery took over as coach last October, moved up to ninth place, while Chelsea fell to 11th, putting pressure firmly back on coach Graham Potter.
