 MS Dhoni’s match winning finishes

  1.  IPL 2019 – 54* off 29 balls, CSK vs KXIP

MS Dhoni has given fans many iconic IPL  moments on the cricket field, but his 2019 innings against Kinga XI Punjab tops the chart.  CSK’s season was on the line and a win would have taken them to the knockout stage. With 16 needed off the final over the captain took the matter in his own hand.  Dhoni finished off the match in just  four deliveries with 4,2,6,6 against Irfan Pathan. After hitting the winning runs MS Dhoni punched himself in the face which was a rare show of uncontrolled emotion.

2.  IPL 2016 : 64 off 32, RPS vs KXIP

With Chennai Super Kings banned for two years over spot fixing saga, MS Dhoni was signed by Rising Pune Supergiant one of the two replacement team  for the 2016 and 2017 season. During RPSG vs KXIP match in 2016, Dhoni put on batting masterclass to snatch win from the jaws of defeat.  With 23 needed of the final over Dhoni smashed Axar Patel for 3 sixes and one boundary to seal the match for RPSG. Dhoni finsihed the match with 64 off 32 balls.

3)  IPL 2018 – 70* off 34 balls CSK vs RCB

After a two year hiatus (2017 & 2017), Chennai Super Kings made their return to IPL. The comeback was really special since they chased down 200 plus target against RCB during the league stage encounter. Chasing 206 for victory, CSK were 175/5 in the 8th over.  With 16 needed in the final over, Bravo scored 10 runs off first two balls before giving back the strike to MS Dhoni. The wicketkeeper batsman smashed a six off the fourth ball to pull over a grand run chase and remain unbeaten on  7o runs off just 34 balls.

4) IPL 2013- 67* off 37 balls CSK vs SRH

A tricky run chase that saw Dhoni pulling out CSK from a very tough spot and take the team past the finish line.  With 15 needed off the final over SRH skipper Cameron White handed the ball to Ashish Reddy. The bowler started the over with a wide but Dhoni finished the match in just 3 balls with a six and two boundaries to take the past the finish line.  He finished the match unbeaten on 67 off 37 balls.

5) IPL 2019- 84* off 48 balls CSK vs RCB

Another classic CSK vs RCB encounter that saw Dhoni masterclass with the bat during the final overs at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The hosts batted first and scored 161 runs in 20 overs. RCB bolwers then had CSK in trouble at  83/5 . With the asking rate climbing Dhoni sent the opposition bowlers for a leather hunt. With 26 runs needed of the final over, Dhoni smashed Umesh Yadav for 24 off the opening five deliveries. However CSK ended up short by 1 run with Shardul Thakur getting run out off the final ball.
