Brazil New Captain: Since Brazil’s shocking exit from the quarterfinals of the Qatar World Cup, a new era started for the Selecao as the Manchester United midfielder Casemiro set to the new captain of Brazil for the interim coach Ramon Menezes’s first game. However, it’s not the first time he will wear the captain’s armband for international duties, as he led the side on 11 occasions. Reports of the Brazilian newspaper Globo suggest the 31-year-old could captain the new era of Brazil’s National Team following Tite’s resignation after six years in charge, in the wake of a disappointing World Cup campaign. With that brings an interesting question, will Manchester United decide to back Casemiro as their new captain? With questions marks over their club captain Harry Maguire’s role in the team and the outcast of the former Leicester City defender from the first team under new head coach Erik Ten Hag, Burno Fernandes is seen wearing the captain’s armband. Maguire is expected to leave the club in the upcoming transfer window, however, Bruno Fernandes is yet to convince his metal for the leadership role.

The Portugal international’s future as on-field captain is up in the air, and questions were raised as he was involved in controversy following the 7-0 disaster against Liverpool. However, Erik Ten Hag has no plans to strip him of the armband and will continue to captain Red Devils when Harry Maguire isn’t involved in the first-team action.

The United boss says, ‘He’s playing a brilliant season, he’s had a really important role in why we’re in the position where we are, and he’s giving energy to the team – not only running a lot at the highest intensity but the right way and right direction,’

‘He’s coaching players, he’s an inspiration, but no one is perfect, everyone makes mistakes, we have to learn, he has to learn and he will, because he’s intelligent. I’m happy to have Bruno Fernandes in the team and that he’s captain when Harry isn’t on the pitch.’

However, a seasoned campaigner Casemiro, whose introduction to the United side has been monumental in the turnaround of the team’s performance is a leader of the side for the club and country, no matter whether he wears the armband or not. Although, the five times Champions League winner as a captain leading the team from the team brings different charisma to the team and will only be beneficial.
