Team India Coach: Former Indian spinner and popular commentator L Sivaramakrishnan has revealed that he offered the current Indian head coach Rahul Dravid to work with the Indian spin contingent. However, the latter denied it out of respect as the leg-spinner was too senior to him. To note, India were recently handed a series loss against Australia. Sivaramakrishnan, responding to a fan’s post on social media, said Rahul Dravid said no to his offer and explained why the former skipper turned it down. “I offered my services to Rahul Dravid and he said that I was too senior to him to be working under him-with the spinners,” the leg-spinner said in his post.
Notably, the conversation on Twitter kickstarted when a fan shared a video of Kuldeep Yadav getting Alex Carey out bowled with a stunning delivery in the 3rd and final ODI between India and Australia in Chennai on Wednesday, March 22. The fan opined that Steve Smith set better fields for Australia leg-spinner Adam Zampa than the one that Kuldeep had to work with during the Australian innings and said India should get on board a spin-bowling expert like Sivaramakrishnan.
Sivaramakrishnan, who was rated as one of the finest leg-spinners of his time, played 9 Tests and picked up 26 wickets and 15 wickets in 16 ODIs. The 57-year-old has been active with commentary duties in the recent past. Kuldeep Yadav picked up 3 wickets in the 3rd ODI while senior spinner Ravindra Jadeja tied down the Australian batters with a miserly spell of 0 for 34 in 10 overs. Fellow left-arm spinner Axar Patel picked up 2 wickets but conceded 57 runs in 8 overs.
