His final months at Manchester United were not one for anyone to remember. He struggled to understand Erik ten Hag and both of them never quite gelled. Before his appearance on the Piers Morgan TalkTV show, he refused to come on as a substitute against Tottenham Hotspur. In the interview, he criticized the Dutch manager and the club’s Glazer ownership, leading to his contract being mutually terminated.

He then decided to venture out of Europe after dominating the region for the better part of 15 years. Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League on a staggering £173-million-a-year deal. CR7 has since rediscovered some of his goal-scoring form, netting nine goals in his first eight Saudi Pro League games.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s comments about his Man United exit

During a Portugal press conference ahead of their international fixtures, Ronaldo spoke about his exit and shared some of his thoughts. He said, ‘Sometimes, you have to go through some things to see who is on my side. I have no problem saying, I had a bad career run, but there’s no time for regrets. Life goes on and, doing well or not, it was part of my growth.’

He continued, ‘When we are at the top of the mountain, we often cannot see what is below. Now, I’m more prepared and learning that was important because I had never been through this, like in the last few months. Now I’m a better man.’

Speaking further, he said, ‘I’m not going to lie: in our life we have to put everything on top of the scale. We thought, we reflected, my family and I too, but we came to the conclusion that we cannot throw in the towel.’

He also reaffirmed his decision to continue his journey with the Portugal National Team. Ronaldo said, ‘I was able to see situations from different angles and learn. I’m very happy to be back. The coach was counting on me and I thank him for that. I realized that I still have a lot to give to the national team. I want and it is my greatest desire.’

Ronaldo now will be hoping to impress current Portuguese National Team coach, Roberto Martinez. The former Belgian coach said that it is a clean slate for every player and everyone starts from scratch. Portugal will be facing Liechtenstein and Luxembourg in their Euro 2024 qualifiers.
