In the first two ODIs, Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed in the very first ball by Mitchell Starc. On both the ocassions, he was caught in front of the stumps by Starc’s inswinging deliveries. Despite the poor show, Suryakumar Yadav continued to receive the backing from the team management.
Ahead of the third ODI, skipper Rohit Sharma said, “He has obviously shown a lot of potential with white ball and I have said it many times before (that) guys with potential will be given some run.”
India head coach Rahul Dravid also backed Suryakumar Yadav. “Not really concerned about Surya. He got two very good balls. One of things about Surya is that he is learning the 50-overs game. The T20 is slightly different. In T20, he has played 10 years of IPL.”
“Even though he has played a lot of t20 cricket I think he has not played a lot of one-day cricket. We need to give him some time and be patient with it. We certainly see the upside of him doing well,” he added.
However In the third ODI, he was sent in to bat lower down the order. However it did not change his fortunes. The 32-year old was dismissed by a Ashton Agar delivery that kept low and crashed the stumps. Soon after his dismissal, fans took to Twitter and showed their anger on the team management.

Sanju Samson suffered a knee injury in January earlier this year. He subsequently missed the T20I series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand. For the ODI series against Australia he was not named in the squad. Samson continued his training at the NCA.
Despite being fit, he was not drafted in as replacement for the injured Shreyas Iyer. The team management overlooked the Kerala batter as Suryakumar Yadav was retained as the preferred no. 4 batter in the side. Samson has currently joined Rajasthan Royals camp ahead of the IPL this year.
