“Currently the captains have to exchange the teams before the toss. This has been changed to exchange of teams immediately post the toss, to enable teams to choose the best XI depending on whether they are batting or bowling first. It will also assist the teams to plan for the impact player,” said a note by the IPL as per Cricinfo.
This makes IPL, the second cricket league after SA20 to accommodate the rule. In SA20, captains passed on a 13-player team sheet at the toss. Then, before kick off the captains announce the playing XI. SA20 tournament Graeme Smith had said that the rule was introduced to lessen the impact of the toss. With dew likely to play a part during the IPL, the BCCI decided to employ the same to level the playing field.
