While the world’s number 1 ranked T20I batter wasn’t the only one who struggled against Starc, but Suryakumar’s repeated failures in the ODI format meant that he was walking on thin ice. Indian fans were not at all impressed with Surya’s displays and some fans even demanded that Sanju Samson should be given a ‘permanent’ place in the Indian middle order.

Since a career-best 64 at Ahmedabad vs West Indies back in February 2022, Suryakumar Yadav has batted 13 times in ODIs failing to get to 50. Only twice has Surya scored above 30 in the time frame, with a best score of 34 not out.

More than 50 % of his innings in the last one year have been single-digit scores. His overall numbers stand at 433 runs in 21 games at a woeful average of 27.06. For context, Sanju Samson, who is unavailable for selection averages 66 in ODIs.

Meanwhile, India has surrendered on 117/10 within 26 overs. None of the Indian batters managed to convert their start to a big total with Virat Kohli being the highest run-scorer after amassing 31 runs. For Australia, ace pacer Mitchell Starc completed an excellent five-wicket haul.
