How the story unfolded?
Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira is the main person in the scandal story including Blaugrana. It raised the question on the credibility of referees. Payments have been made from Barcelona to Negreira. It was a pure case of scandal and Barcelona was put on the radar of La Liga.
When the investigation was made, new updates came out in favour of Barcelona. Negreira issued a statement to the Tax Agency to explain his income in 2021. It has been seen by El Pais, in which the former official explained the nature of his work with the Blaugrana.
What does Negreira’s statement read?
“FC Barcelona considered that the team was harmed and other teams were favoured. This is a personal hypothesis, nobody has told me directly. My obligation was to give my opinion about the matches in terms of arbitration and the players. Technical advice. What FC Barcelona wanted was to make sure that no decisions were made against the club, that everything was neutral.”

This whole statement also included names of former Barcelona presidents Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu.
It also reads, “(To make sure the Competition Committee) was not made up entirely of judges from Madrid, (Barçelona) arrange an interlocutor with the Federation who will take care of institutional relations and to keep the club informed of possible interests or disagreement between LaLiga and the Federation,”
Negreira’s statement also added: “I saw them at most six times a year so they were calm that there were no decisions against FC Barcelona in the arbitration committee, that everything was neutral.”
An investigation is running on and still, there is not a big movement in the story but Barcelona will be on the radar. Negreira’s statement clearly accepted that Barcelona just wanted a fair system because other clubs were favoured. Former presidents wanted to assure that no decisions were made against the club.
