After the unveiling of Pele Stadium, which was earlier known as Nyamirambo Stadium the FIFA president played a friendly football match country’s President Paul Kagame. Reports have also claimed that a stadium in the Cape Verde islands has been also named after the former Santos FC star.

Earlier, Infantino explained the reason behind his request of naming a stadium after Pele in every country. The 53-year-old reasoned that the coming generation should know the importance of the Brazil great. The FIFA president also recently paid tribute to Pele at The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony in Paris.

‘Pelé is football, Pelé is simply football. And we lost him, we miss him a lot. But Pelé is eternal, he is with us, and he is always with us. He will always be with us. I would like to thank Pelé’s family for being with us here tonight. Muito obrigado pela [sua] presença. Thank you so much.’
Pele, who won the World Cup three times and scored over 1,000 goals in his career, died on December 29 at the age of 82 after a long battle with cancer.
