South Africa vs West Indies: Being the eighth and ninth teams on the ICC World Cup Super League, neither South Africa nor the West Indies are assured a spot in the World Cup 2023. The top eight teams advance automatically to the World Cup; the remaining teams must progress through a qualifying round in Zimbabwe in June and July.
As the Super League comes to an end early next month, Sri Lanka could surpass both South Africa and the West Indies. The series starting on Thursday will not count towards qualification as it falls outside the Super League programme. Both squads will be significantly different from the lineups that competed in a Test series that South Africa won 2-0.
