“It was the healthiest decision for me, the team, and the people. It becomes harder when you realize that your role is not the same, and the dynamics change when you don’t play every three days. Even though it may seem like a decision made in the heat of the moment, it was a considered decision, and I don’t regret it. It was the right choice”, Pique said.
During the interview, Pique revealed that not feeling as important as he had felt in the past was one of the reasons which led to his decision to retire. He clarified that he would not discuss whether he felt cheated by anyone and that he believed he deserved to choose his own end.
“I finished for a number of reasons. I didn’t feel as important as I had felt at other times and that didn’t make me feel good. I won’t go into whether I felt cheated by anyone. I think I earned to choose my end, it happened and I’m happy with that”, the 36-year-old added.

Notably, Pique announced his retirement in November last year at Spotify Camp Nou after a stint of over 15 years with the Catalans. During his legendary career at Camp Nou, Pique made 615 appearances for the club and won countless trophies, including 8 La Liga titles, 3 Champions League trophies, 6 Spanish Super Cups, and more.
While Pique has retired from professional football, he will still receive another winner’s medal if Barca clinches the La Liga title this season as the defender made six league appearances this season prior to retirement. Xavi’s men are 9 points ahead of second-placed Real Madrid and are looking strong to clinch the 27th La Liga title.
