Gary Linekar BBC: Gary Linekar and BBC have been in quite some soup for the past week or so. Linekar had criticized the new Illegal Migration Bill, as he responded to a video on Twitter of Home Secretary Suella Braverman as she presented the Government’s small boats plan. Since then, BBC’s Match of the Day Programme was cut short to just 20 minutes last night, without any commentary or even the iconic theme tune. Now, it seems as though Linekar is set for a comeback on the FA Cup show next week. Follow FA Cup & Premier League LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN

The agreement between Linekar and BBC should be announced tomorrow after a week of Nazi tweets row. MPs and pals of Lineker will pore over the details to see who has backed down. If the star presenter has not apologised or promised to follow impartiality standards moving forward, it runs the risk of igniting a potentially explosive new dispute between the BBC and the Conservative party.

Director General Tim Davie has been under massive pressure to find a solution after schedules were hammered for two consecutive days. A TV source said, ‘Gary will be back to host the BBC’s FA Cup coverage. A deal has been struck. If the BBC have agreed to allow him to keep tweeting his anti-Tory views, it will be seen as a major victory for Gary, but the details of the deal are unclear at this stage.’

Manchester City will play Burnley on Saturday, while Manchester United will play Fulham on Sunday in the FA Cup quarterfinal coverage next weekend. The legislation that was passed will see migrants swiftly detained and removed to either their country of origin or a safe third state within 28 days. Gary Linekar was not happy with the same and tweeted out in criticism.

‘Good heavens, this is beyond awful. This is just an immeasurably cruel policy directed at the most vulnerable people in language that is not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the 30s, and I’m out of order?’

The BBC said the pundit’s comments on Twitter were a ‘breach of our guidelines’. According to reports, Gary’s tweets violated the BBC’s stringent impartiality policies, which require employees to ‘avoid taking sides in political issues’ and ‘take care when addressing public policy matters’.

Director General of BBC, Tim Davie said that he would ‘absolutely not’ quit amid a fallout that has bought the corporation to its knees. He called this whole row a ‘difficult day’ and apologized for the disruption to BBC sports programming.
