Shaun Marsh Retirement: Marsh leaves behind a rich legacy, says time to focus on family
Marsh was destined for greatness as he came from a cricketing family. It only took 16 years for Marsh to make his debut at the 2000 Under-19 World Cup in Sri Lanka. After a year, he became the youngest player from WA to make his debut aged 17 and 236 days. In the initial years, Marsh could not make much impact for WA, but later he turned things around in 2008. The southpaw’s inconsistency with the bat in hand for Australia led him to play only fee matches.
While there is no doubt Marsh retires as a WA legend, the veteran underachieved with the bat for Australia. For someone who was tipped for greatness, Marsh could not nail a spot in the middle order nor as an opener in the Australia team. Injuries also have played a huge part in Marsh not cementing a place in the team.
In 73 ODIs he scored 2773 runs, while in 38 Test matches, the southpaw amassed 2265 runs. Nonetheless, Marsh leaves behind a rich legacy, of representing his stateside for 22 years and winning a lot of trophies as a player.
