Many of the fans believe WWE Superstar Gunther to be either Russian or German. There are several reasons for these assumptions. First of all, the WWE Superstar is mainly associated with German descent. Sometimes he could be seen delivering promos in that language. While, according to several others, his character and skin tone indicate a Russian nationality.

However, the WWE Intercontinental Champion is actually of Austrian Nationality. Gunther was born in Vienna, thus he is of Austrian Nationality.

As mentioned earlier, Gunther is the current WWE Intercontinental Champion. He is the leader of the European Professional wrestling stable Imperium, which consists of Gunther, Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci.

He is the first Austrian to compete in WWE. He signed with WWE in 2019 and debuted on NXT UK brand and later became the NXT United Kingdom Champion. He later moved to the primary NXT brand in January 2022 and then he was promoted to the main roster on WWE SmackDown in April 2022.
On WWE SmackDown on June 10, 2022, Gunther defeated Ricochet to become the winner of the WWE Intercontinental Championship. He is also the first Austrian to win the title. Gunther has since then held the Champion title for 271 days till date, thus becoming the longest-Reiging Intercontinental Champion of the 21st Century.
