Stand-in skipper Steve Smith did not know which of the two pitches being readied in Ahmedabad will be used for the fourth Test of a series India presently leads 2-1 less than 48 hours before the game.
According to Smith, the curator informed him on Tuesday morning that there was a 60% possibility of playing on one surface closer to the eastern half of the ground with mostly black soil and a 40% chance of playing on another area with mostly red soil.
The ace batter, who continues to fill in for Pat Cummins and will lead his 38th Test this week, said he couldn’t remember ever being confused about the starting pitch so close to a game.
