On March 6, Smriti Mandhana and company, who had chosen to bat first, did not perform well enough and were skittled out for 158 in just 19 overs. The aim was then easily accomplished by Hayley Matthews and Natalie Sciver-Brunt for MI as they sped home with a massive 34 deliveries remaining.

Earlier, on March 5, RCB lost their season opener against Delhi Capitals by 60 runs. While batting first DC posted a huge total of 223 runs. Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning smashed an impressive 84 and 72, respectively. Chasing the target RCB manages to score only 163 runs in their allocated 20 overs. Captain Smriti Mandhana was the top scorer for Bangalore with 35 runs.

To ensure a better performance in the inaugural edition of WPL, RCB will need to make some crucial changes. Firstly, the RCB needs to strengthen their batting line-up. The team struggled to put up big scores and was overly reliant on the top order. They need to identify some good middle-order batsmen who can stabilize the innings and score quickly toward the end.

RCB also need to address their bowling woes. RCB was unable to defend some of the modest totals and conceded too many runs in the death overs. The team needs to recruit some quality fast bowlers who can execute their yorkers and slower balls with accuracy.

Three Changes that Royal Challengers should make for their WPL Campaign-

Dane van Niekerk for Sophie Devine

Dane van Niekerk’s skill as an all-around player doesn’t need to be emphasised. Despite the fact that she was left off the T20 World Cup roster, she offers a cutting edge to the RCB team that it has so far lacked in WPL 2023. Sophie Devine hasn’t bowled all that regularly lately either because she struggled to get going during the T20 World Cup.

Komal Zanzad for Preeti Bose

Preeti Bose, a left-arm spinner, has played in two unremarkable games thus far in WPL 2023. She failed to pick up a wicket against the Delhi Capitals, and although having one against MI, she hasn’t really been a threat. Perhaps Komal Zanzad can provide RCB’s bowling lineup an extra boost in this regard. A left-arm seamer always adds a unique dimension, and because Zanzad is an unknown player, she might surprise the opposing batters.

Erin Burns for Heather Knight

Knight took a few wickets against the Capitals, but she may not bowl as frequently now because Shreyanka Patil is the team’s starting off-spinner. To that end, Erin Burns might be viewed as a comparable replacement. In the Women’s National Cricket League, she has been in outstanding form for New South Wales, accumulating runs in the middle order at a respectable strike rate.
