WPL 2023 Rules: With the tournament just a sleep away, BCCI announced playing conditions for the inaugural Women Premier League. While the Indian cricket board is introducing the Impact Player rule in IPL 2023, there is no such provision for WPL. However, teams will be allowed concussion substitutes in case of head injury. Many IPL conditions have been carried forward, including 4 strategic timeouts, Super Overs and DRS calls. Follow WPL 2023 Live Updates on Insidesport.IN

As per Cricbuzz, BCCI decided against applying the Impact Player rule in the first season of the Women’s Premier League. The Indian cricket board trialled the rule in the men’s domestic competition – Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy last year. It was later confirmed to be a part of IPL 2023. However, the idea has not been carried forward to the Women’s IPL yet.
As for the other rules, many of IPL’s trademark aspects will feature in the WPL. The 2:30-minute strategic timeout will be available twice during each innings. Each team will also have two DRS appeals, much like in the IPL. There will be a Super Over in case of a tie, with another super over should the one-over eliminator be level. There is no boundary count rule which crowned England World Champions in 2019.
WPL 2023 Rules: WPL Playing Conditions
- 20 overs each innings.
- 2 DRS per innings. 4 Strategic timeouts across 40 overs.
- Super Over in case of tie. No boundary count rule, Super Over replay until winner is declared.
- No Impact player rule. Concussion sub allowed in case of injury.
- 8 matches for each team. 22 total in the league.
- Table topper qualifies for final. 2nd and 3rd play eliminator.
- Bottom two teams knocked out.

One of the major changes from the IPL to the WPL is the playoff format. With only five teams competing, the BCCI have announced a one-off knockout clash after the end of the league stage. The new system will allow only the top 3 teams in the playoffs system. The bottom two teams will end their journey post the group stage.
The table topper directly qualifies for the WPL Finals, while the second and the third place team will battle amongst each other in a single playoff eliminator to reach the finals.
