Rohit Sharma’s decision to bat first at Holkar stadium backfired as Matthew Kuhnemann bagged a five wicket haul in the first innings of the match. Speaking of India’s innings Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill were expected to give strong start at the top. Instead both the batsmen were failed to get going getting out to Matt Kuhnemann for 12 and 1 runs respectively. Nathan Lyon castled Cheteshwar Pujara’s stumps, while Todd Murphy struck to remove dangerman Virat Kohli for 22 runs. KS Bharat, Shreyas Iyer and Ravindra Jadeja failed to make a significant contribution falling to Australian spinners on an uneven surface.
Despite losing seven wickets in the opening session, India were hoping to fightback from their lower middle order. However Mohammed Siraj, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Umesh Yadav gifted their wickets post-lunch as the host were finally bowled out for 109 runs.

Australia began the innings losing Travis Head early to Ravindra Jadeja. Usman Khawaja and and Marnus Labuschange then put up a brilliant partnership with Khawaja scoring a fine half century. Jadeja once again provided the breakthrough with the left hander caught by Shubman Gill. The all-rounder gave India a bit of upperhand dismissing Marnus Labuschange (31) and Steve Smith (26). Australia currently has a lead of 47 runs with Handscomb and Cameron Green at the crease. Both batsmen will look to put up a huge partnership in the first session and try to increase the lead.
