  • M. Navratilova 332

“Of course, it’s surreal in a way to be that many weeks as world number one. To match Steffi Graf, who is one of the all-time greats of our sport, both men and women. Just being amongst these legendary names is flattering. I’m very proud of it,” said Djokovic after his historic feat.

Djokovic returned to number one spot in the rankings earlier this year after his victory in the Australian Open. He won his 22nd Grand Slam title by defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final at the Melbourne Major in January. The Serbian displaced Carlos Alcaraz to go up to the No.1 spot in the rankings.

Despite being elated after the achievement, Djokovic said that he is still driven to achieve more in the sport. “I still want more achievements. I’m driven by the goals. I’m as dedicated to the sport really as anybody else.”

Djokovic is currently in Dubai and is set to spend his 378th week at the top by playing in the Dubai Tennis Championships. He will begin his campaign in the ATP 500 event on Tuesday, 28th February. The top seed will face qualifier Tomas Machac in the first round.

The 22-time Grand Slam winner is on a 12-match win streak in 2023. Djokovic is yet to lose a single match in the tour this year so far. He started the year by winning the Adelaide International title and then went on to win the Australian Open. The World No.1 is now eyeing his third straight title of the year at the Dubai Tennis Championships.
